Today is the start of Comic-Con and I have no doubt this year's attendance will be impressive, if not record-breaking.

The chart on the right, produced by Comichron’s John Jackson Miller and ICv2’s Milton Griepp, shows that comics and graphic novel sales in the U.S. and Canada reached $935 million in 2014. This marks a 7% increase in sales from 2013. Equally impressive was that this increase occurred in all three formats. According to the findings, last year was the biggest year for print since 1995.

The only noticeable decline was in the newsstand sales channel for periodical comics, which dropped to $20 million from $25 million. This is most likely because Marvel stopped that distribution channel earlier last year.

So, comics sales are up, comics-related TV shows are popular, and comics-related films are generating massive box office returns. It's a great time to be in comics.
